By James Alan Miller Accessing the Web on mobile device can try even the most even-tempered person's patience. That's why mobile application developer Handmark introduced its Pocket Express service back in the spring. Express formats Internet content for small handheld screens, while delivering said data through a series of channels. There are channels for news, finance, weather, sports, maps and directions, directory lookups, movie times and ticket purchases, etc. The company expanded the service to J2ME and BREW-enabled mobile phones plus UIQ and Series 60 Symbian smartphones back in September. Although Research In Motion's BlackBerry handhelds were supposed to also gain Pocket Express service at that time, it wasn't until today, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, that that promise was fulfilled. According to Handmark, it will make Pocket Express available later this month as a download directly to ten color display BlackBerry models: the 7100, 7210, 7230, 7280, 7290, 7510, 7520, 7730, 7750, and 7780. The company claims Pocket Express can help BlackBerries achieve download speeds up to 70 times faster than conventional mobile Web browsers. The service costs $7 per month. Related Links:
