Sprint was one of the first U.S. operators stream videos to phones, and it pioneered handset TV in this country with…Sprint TV—winning an Emmy award even—as well. Now the carrier and partner MSpot have introduced the first service to deliver full-length feature films.

Unlike watching a movie on TV or at the theaters, MSpot Movies steams films to a user's handset in bite-sized segments of about five minutes each. Purportedly, the "chapters" have been optimized for a mobile audience, which it seems doesn't have the attention span, time or inclination to sit through a whole movie in front of their handset in a single session.

MSpot CEO Daren Tsui says, "We've designed MSpot Movies based on what we've learned about tailoring content for mobile audiences. We believe that MSpot Movies is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is to come in the mobile entertainment era."

The new service offers comedy, horror, drama, adventure and animated films. Titles at launch include Night of the Living Dead, Short Circuit, Angel and the Badmen, Three Stooges, and One-Eyed Jacks.

More of the Sunday afternoon, nothing else is on the tube variety than current cutting-edge programming. Sprint says it will add up to seven new movies weekly, however, so title selection could improve quickly.

And it’s not just movies. The service delivers TV shows, music concerts and stand-up comedy specials to 2 to 3-inch cell phone displays as well.

MSpot Movies goes for a flat monthly fee of $6.95 per month, on top your regular voice and data plan. It is MSpot's third subscription service, after MSpot Radio and MSpot Music, to be offered by Sprint.
