Handmark Expresses Real-Time Sports Scores to PDAs, Smartphones

Handmark has enhanced the sports coverage in its free channel-based Pocket Express wireless news and information service. With Express Scoreboard users can now access scores and information from major sports in real time; be it inning by inning, quarter by quarter or half by half.

The sports scoreboard is located at the top of the Express Sports list, above News and Sports leagues. The live information scoreboard is provided by sports information and statistical analyst company STATS.

In addition to Express Scoreboard, the latest release of Pocket Express also features a scrolling banner across the top of the PageOne interface with the top news headlines of the day. In addition, the PageOne and Extras tabs are now located on the left side of the screen for easier navigation.

According to Handmark chief marketing officer Douglas Edwards, “Whether it is professional sports or collegiate sports, avid sports fans can now stay up-to-date on game-day regardless of their location."

Pocket Express uses a channel metaphor, rather than a browser, to deliver Internet content to PDAs and smartphones. Handmark says Pocket Express is faster than mobile Web surfing by orders of magnitude. The concept behind the software is to basically downsize the Web to make it more manageable or 'usable.'

An Executive edition of Pockets Express adds white and yellow page directory search, Oxford reference, movie show times, stock market portfolio tracking, detailed street level maps and driving directions to the free channels. It is available for $6.99 per month subscription.

The application is available for the Palm, Windows Mobile Pocket PC & Smartphone, and RIM BlackBerry platforms.
