Alltel, America's fifth largest mobile operator, is partnering with
Wallace Wireless to offer enterprises access to emergency plans during a crisis. Companies can now store this information on a BlackBerry handheld with the Wallace Incident Communicator (WIC) software.
Created especially for the BlackBerry platform, WIC allows business and public safety officials to update emergency response plans, create forms and check lists, view images, monitor camera feeds, locate personnel and retain legally mandated records.
"Businesses and governments are increasingly conscious of the need to keep disaster recovery and continuity of operations plans in the hands of key decision-makers at all times," said Elisabeth Owen, president of wireless business solutions for Alltel. "Storing that data on BlackBerry devices empowers decision-makers to respond quickly and effectively during a crisis."
Wallace has offered its solution to first responders, government agencies, utilities, banks and school systems, according to company president Rob Moffat. He said the company is "committed to providing a total solution for mobile emergency response and business continuity, and we're thrilled that our service is now available over Alltel's wireless network."
Alltet carries Research In Motion's 7130e and 7250 BlackBerry models.
