Gizmo for Mobile
SIPphone Inc. has recently announced the release of Gizmo for Mobile, free-to-use software that will allows users to send instant messages via mobile browsers. Supported networks include the Gizmo Project, AIM, MSN, Yahoo and Google Talk. It also allows users to place Gizmo VoIP calls when they log into a Web site and enter phone numbers for themselves and their call's recipient.

After entering the numbers, users hang up and their phones will ring as soon as the connection has been made. All calls are billed at Gizmo's Call Out rates, which are significantly cheaper than international long distance. For example Gizmo rates for US-to-US calling is 0.038USD per minute, and US-to-Canada calling is billed at a rate of 0.039USD per minute.

Instant messaging through Gizmo for Mobile is free and the software offers presence awareness. Users can also use the Gizmo for Mobile file transfer options for free as well. Gizmo for Mobile can be downloaded here. The client is compatible with more than 200 models of mobile phones from over 20 brands including Nokia, Blackberry, Palm, and  Motorola.

Threaded IM from Nokia
Nokia is also working to improve its instant messaging services to users. Its Beta Labs developers have recently posted Conversation (see image), an instant messaging application that lets users follow conversations in a threaded manner. Conversation displays incoming and outgoing messages in a display format that better manages and tracks complete messaging conversations (threads). The Conversation application also offers an easy way to replying to messages.

Conversation has been compatibility tested with the Nokia N73. The application works but has not been fully tested with the Nokia E50, E60, E61, E61i, E62, E70, N71, N75, N77, N80, N91, N92, N93 and N93i models. Nokia users wanting to try Conversation will first need to install Nokia Contacts Services Support Package to the device memory then install Conversation application. These files are available for download on the Nokia Labs Web site.
