This week, Project-a-Phone introduced a more budget-friendly version of its eponymous presentation solution for PDAs, smartphones and feature phones.

The new model, called the ICD-1300, sports the same form factor as the ICD-5000, but it has a maximum resolution of 1.3 megapixels to the higher-end model's 3 megapixel camera. At $295, the ICD-1300 also costs $100 less than the ICD-5000.

Unlike other projection and presentation solutions for mobile devices, the Project-a-Phone does not read an image via a cable, so proprietary connectors aren't an issue. Rather, smartphones, for example, securely clamp into place and a live video image is read directly from the screen itself by a video camera and sent to a computer via a USB connection.

Picture and video can be displayed at 30 fps at a VGA resolution on a laptop's screen, a monitor, through a projector, or shared over the Web.

As with ICD-5000, you can take still images individually or in a programmed sequence, and display multiple screens simultaneously when two Project-a-Phone's are connected to the same laptop. Software also lets you adjust and optimize images.

The ICD-1300 is also the first Project-a-Phone model whose hardware is Macintosh compatible. It weighs under two pounds and fits comfortably in a bundled 10 x 9 x 2-inch carrying case
