This tip, from RIM's BlackBerry Connection newsletter, explains how to find out how much flash memory your BlackBerry has left and how to maximize the amount of storage available to you in your smartphone.

Amount of Memory

  1. On the Home screen, open Options.
  2. Select Status.
    • The File Free field shows the approximate amount of available flash memory available for data. If you want to make sure that this value is as accurate as possible, restart the BlackBerry smartphone to initiate a full garbage collection. For instructions, click here.
    • The File Total field shows the amount of available flash memory after loading the wireless transceiver, operating system, and basic applications.
  3. To see the approximate amount of occupied flash memory on the BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps.
  4. On the Home screen, open Options.
  5. Select Status.
  6. Display the menu and select Database Sizes.
