By James Alan Miller
Could red be the new black? For usually staid business-centric smartphone companies, it appears it is.
Today, Research In Motion (RIM) and Cingular Wireless (in the process of transitioning to AT&T) introduced a dark ruby-red version of the BlackBerry Pearl and the crimson-red edition of the Palm Treo 680. These smartphones are unique in RIM and Palm's cannons, as they are the first to come in multiple colors. Sure, colorful phones aren’t anything new, but we’re starting to seem them targeted at the enterprise as well as the street.
The Pearl can now be had in three colors: black, white and red. And the Treo 680 four: Graphite (silver), Arctic (white), Crimson (red) and Copper (orange). Aside from red, the other colors for the Treo 680 are only available if you buy the device – at a premium - unlocked.
The red BlackBerry Pearl is the first handset branded under AT&T and not Cingular. Today, the carrier also unveiled its first remodeled Cingular store under the AT&T banner. It is called the The AT&T Experience Store. To learn more about the compact Pearl, RIM’s first multimedia-orientated BlackBerry - with a camera and memory slot - click here.
