By Melissa Oxendale
When it comes to directions on how to play most BlackBerry games, all you get from most developers is a How To Play section with print so small no one really wants to read it.
Bookworm from Magmic, on the other hand, doesn't bother with that. How tos and tips pop up as you play the game. And, somewhat conveniently, when you don't need tips anymore, you can turn them off, along with the sound effects, under options at the main menu.
The graphics in Bookwork, as with most Magmic games, are great. Those familiar with the PC version will feel right at home with the BlackBerry edition, as the latter looks and feels just like the former. As on the desktop, a worm eats selected words and you can see the score before you choose a word.
Moving around inside the game is easy. You use the scroll wheel to go up and down and scroll wheel and alt to go right or left. Best of all, when you type in a word on the BlackBerry keypad the game will pick the letters for you. The backspace will unselect a letter if you make a mistake.
Here's how you earn and lose points: The longer the word you find the more points you get. And while fire letters will end the game if they hit the bottom, the green and gold letters will earn you extra points.
When a level is completed a neat book pops up go give you the rank, best word, longest word, time, total time, and points needed to move up in the rankings. This book comes complete with a picture that goes with the rank.
Bookworm is a great way to pass the time and work the brain. The biggest thing you have to worry about is playing the game way too much. It sells for $7.95 Related Links:
