RIM Throws Curve with BlackBerry Web Site

In the past when I've gone to www.BlackBerry8300.com, a Web site RIM bought recently, I didn't find much there, except a clear statement that a BlackBerry 8300 would be coming. Why else would RIM buy the address?

Now if you try to go to www.BlackBerry8300.com you get redirected to www.BlackBerrycurve.com. Currently, all this Web site shows is a blank page.

So what can we conclude from this change?

Well, it is leading many people, including myself and those at The BoyGenuis Report, to speculate that the new BlackBerry will be called the Curve, similar to the 8100 being branded the Pearl.

It also hints that the 8300 might be unleashed upon the world very soon, likely at RIM's Wireless Enterprise Symposium, which starts Monday May 7th—a possible release date in previous rumors.

RIM is hosting Capital Markets Day on that day at 9:00 am Eastern Time during the symposium. This event will be webcast via RIM's website, with a replay available for two weeks following.

Sounds like the perfect time to unveil the newest device in the line up. Don't you think?

More on BlackBerry 8300/Curve
This series is supposed to be follow-up to RIM's current 8800 models.

Here's some information regarding the new BlackBerry we've gathered so far:

  • Full QWERTY keyboard
  • 2.0 Megapixel camera/camcorder, with flash and timer
  • GPS built in
  • Music and Video player with support for MP3s and streaming multimedia plus an expandable memory slot
  • Voice-activated dialing
  • Bluetooth

It may also include Wi-Fi, but rumors about this particular feature conflict. Perhaps there will be two versions of the 8300 with a different mix of features.

The front runners as to what operator(s) may offer the 8300 in the U.S. are T-Mobile and AT&T (formally Cingular).
