BlackBerryToday > News > Alert: Palm Posts Security Patch For Palm OS Treos Alert: Palm Posts Security Patch For Palm OS Treos
By James Alan Miller
According to Palm, when password protection is enabled, it can be partially circumvented by running the Find feature while on the "Make Emergency Call" screen.
This would allow a malicious user to view a list of search results from the Treo 650/680/700p's built-in applications such as Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Memos and Email. The malicious user cannot access or display anything beyond the search results list.
Palm has posted a version of the security patch for each of the three affected Treos. Go here for the Treo 650's update, here for the 680's and here for the 700p's.
In addition to loading the update through a HotSync connection, you may access and download it over-the-air. Palm offers directions for both methods on its Web site. In related news, Palm is still planning to release its long-awaited Treo 700p maintenance release on May 28th, this according to a recent post on the company's official blog by manager of public relations Paul Loeffler. Treo 700p users have waited upwards of a year for this update. A month ago, Palm offered some detailed information about what'll be included in this ROM upgrade and an explanation as to why it has taken so long to arrive. Related Links:
