We all got excited when Research In Motion (RIM) announced the BlackBerry Curve a few weeks ago, expecting the release of the curvy new smartphone any day. We're still waiting…

There have been a lot of rumors regarding the BlackBerry's no show.

Some are asserting AT&T reps are saying to them RIM plans to ship the Curve on 5/24, while others think it'll come out when the iPhone ships, sometime in June.

Mobile insider the Boy Genius reports AT&T will hold a launch party with RIM on June 8th in New York City, which points to a Friday release for the carrier. Perhaps the Friday before AT&T and Apple introduce the iPhone?

The word is that AT&T is trying to get the Curve out as soon as possible. Of course, if you ask some AT&T employees about the Curve directly they'll look at you like you are crazy.

The T-Mobile, another operator that may carry the smartphone, side of the BlackBerry Curve has been much quieter. Some people who've spoken to people in T-Mobile stores say the Curve should arrive from that carrier in June.

Clearly this release is not going down smoothly. It feels like it's been ages since the day the Curve became official. I may not be patient person, but a solid release date would be nice

More on the BlackBerry Curve
The Curve, also known as the BlackBerry 8300 series, earned its name because of the smooth edges of the device. RIM is gearing Curve towards those a full keyboard instead of the smaller keypad/keyboard hybrid of the Pearl. It has RIM’s new intuitive trackball navigation system, first introduced with the Pearl last fall.

It features a 2 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom, built-in flash, self-portrait mirror and full screen viewfinder. There is also no mention of being able to record video as originally rumored. RIM says Curve can play videos, however, and music, of course.

It features Bluetooth 2.0 for hands-free use with headsets, car kits and other peripherals, and with support for the Bluetooth audio profile (A2DP/AVRCP), for wireless stereo headsets. Dedicated volume controls are located on the side of the BlackBerry. There's also a 3.5-millimeter stereo headset jack.

Curves microSD slot supports up to 2GB cards that are available today and will automatically handle 4 GB cards when the become available later this year.

The quad-band smartphone measures 4.2 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches and weighs about 3.9 ounces.
