By James Alan Miller
While they both deliver 3G cellular-wireless data transfers, something the iPhone won't, the W910 sports a 2 megapixel shooter to the W960's 3.2 megapixel camera. As with the more expensive iPhone model, the W960 includes 8GB of flash memory. The W910, on the other hand, bundles a 1GB Memory Stick Micro for its expansion slot, to supplement its 40MB of memory, which is tiny by today's standards. The W910's is a slider that reveals a numeric keypad when open.
Sony Ericsson's new SensMe technology automatically categorizes a users music by mood and tempo. How does it do this? The phone-maker says a visual shows each of your tracks as dots in a matrix, placed along a horizontal and vertical axis according to their attributes.
Even cooler is a feature called Shake control, which allows you to skip your music forward one track if it’s flicked one way and back if it’s flicked another. Shake the W910 back and forth and it shuffles your playlist. It can also be used for mobile gaming. While the candy-bar style W960 doesn't offer an expansion slot, it does deliver that 8GB of memory we spoke of earlier. There's also Wi-Fi and a 2.6-inch touch screen. The W960 runs on the Symbian operating system with the UIQ 3.1 interface and support for ActiveSync; synchronization technology Windows Mobile device owners will be very familiar with. The new Walkman phones are due to ship during the fourth quarter: the W910 in red and black and the W960- only in the latter color. There's been no word on pricing or regional availability.
In addition to the 5 megapixel K850 Cyber-shot (due in the fourth quarter), Sony Ericsson introduced the 3G-enabled, 14mm-thin K530 with a 2 megapixel camera and a pair of lower-end flip phones, the Z320 and Z250.
And The Time and Caller is...
The water resistant timepieces include a bright OLED display to allow people to view Caller ID and number information plus a vibrating alert for incoming calls or SMS/MMS messages received on their cell phone or smartphone. There's also an out of range warning where the watch vibrates after 10 meters.
The new model, the MBW-150, comes in three styles: the Classic Edition, Music Edition and Executive Edition (pictured left to right). They are due to ship in the four quarter and, among there features, allow users to control the music functions on their phone for the first time. Related Links:
