Apple and AT&T will close their stores early today in preparation for the iPhone launch. The former will shut the doors at its 164 retail locations at 2:00 p.m. and the latter at 4:30 p.m., before re-opening at 6:00 p.m. to start selling the iPhone. The stores will stay open until midnight.

Customers will be limited to a maximum of two iPhone's each at Apple stores and one at AT&T stores. And, as has been stated before, the cell phone/iPod/Internet combo will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

You'll be able to start ordering the iPhone online at 6:00 p.m. pacific PDT. Shipping will be free.

Starting Saturday morning, Apple will start offering free, in-depth iPhone workshops at all Apple retail stores. In addition, every Apple retail store will provide support for the iPhone at the Genius Bar and personal training through Apple’s new One to One program.

Apple started to allow folks to check iPhone availability at your local Apple retail store at 9:00 p.m. the last night here. AT&T has its own version of an iPhone finder for its stores here.

Unless you plan on waiting in line for hours at either an Apple or AT&T, we suggest making good use of both iPhone store finders before making the trip out to buy one. It'll be better than coming home empty handed and disappointed.
