Google Buys GrandCentral - One Phone Number to Rule Them All

Many BlackBerry users out there have been trying out GrandCentral. If you haven't heard of the service it gives you one phone number to rule them all. Meaning you basically get a GrandCentral (or GC) number which you can set to ring to multiple numbers depending on when it is or even who is calling.

You can put your contacts in GrandCentral's Web site and set it up to always send certain people directly to voicemail. It even has phone call spam features that will send spam calls directly to a voicemail. You can even opt to listen into to voicemail messages as they are being left by a caller.

For GrandCentral users what is changing?

  •  GrandCentral was in an open-beta mode before Google took over. Now it is a limited invitation only beta unless you already have an account.
  •  Prior to Google you could upload your own sound files for ring back tones. This will no longer be available. Instead you can choose from a selection of files within GrandCentral.

The Web site says service will continue for current users. I was able to log in and use my account today, for example.

If you haven't tried GrandCentral yet you can sign up for an invitation. It is great for anyone who has multiple numbers.

GrandCentral also offers a mobile Web site where you can check on your account, including a visual voicemail component. I was able to log in without any problems on my BlackBerry 8100.
