By James Alan Miller
Mobile interactive solution’s vendor Movius Interactive recently announced strategic partnerships with Colibria, a provider of mobile instant messaging (IM) and presence-enabled solutions, and Action Engine, an on-device wireless portal company.
The overall idea is to offer solutions that better propel customer loyalty and mobile content revenues for wireless service providers, such as mobile operators and cable companies. With Colibria, Movius’ developed a new offering for the interactive mobile media market called Mobile Instant Messaging, a presence-based messaging and social networking service that supports features such as contact list management, user presence, multi-participant chats, etc. Mobile Instant Messaging, which Movius is showing at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, addresses both the mobilization of PC-based IM services (i.e. MSN, Yahoo Messenger or GoogleTalk) as well as carrier-branded IM communities. The reason: “The mobile IM market is expected to double annually to over 1 billion users in the next 5 years. It’s a huge opportunity for carriers to participate in a high growth messaging service,” according to Movius CEO Oscar Rodriguez. “Our partnership with Colibria is an avenue for our customers to upgrade current SMS subscribers to a better, more interactive experience. Through a global distribution, technology and services agreement, Movius and Action Engine said they'd create intuitive and personalized mobile media applications and portals for the same mobile operators, cable operators and providers Movius is addressing through its Colibria partnership. Technology from Action Engine will provide Movius with its handset applications framework and management tools needed to bring interactivity to first-generation mobile media applications, according to the companies. It also creates an environment for launching new, interactive mobile media services. “Action Engine counts many of today’s top media brands as our customers, including AOL, Dow Jones, TiVo and MSNBC.com," Action Engine CEO and president Scott G. Silk said in a statement. "Our partnership with Movius, which has established relationships with top wireless operators in more than 75 countries worldwide, greatly expands and accelerates the use of our Mobile Application Platform with wireless operators and other service providers across the globe,” Action Engine technology provides with direct access from cell phones and smartphones to a wide range of content and services through its on-device portal. Supported mobile platforms include Java, Windows Mobile, BREW and RIM BlackBerry. Adpated from Instant Messaging Planet Related Links:
