Iphone was beat - years ago
I will defend Windows Mobile.
Its better then the iphoen if you are willign to customize it and not be afraid of the geekyness of the process. I phone is easy and thats just that.
1. Huge letters and numbers
- New apps have used this and there are many options to increase your size. I dont think this si the issue as people have various needs. Its good to have options
2. Empty, unused space on the screen
The today screen can be as empty or as cluttered as u want.
I hate the iphone main screen its just a wm program screen with a back ground and animated icons. Too silly when you need to click buttons to see your agenda.

3. Transitions between functions
WM has noewer apps that address this. however i like the flexibility. You can make it as animated as u want or as business like as u want. animations can be annoying.

4. Do-it-yourself setup at home
#G must be activated at the store... not sure where you are going with this. but WM has many items that are configured at home rather than in store.

5. A single cable for USB and wall power
its called a dock. you can buy them. As for the actual cable dont know any solution for PPC.

6. Carrier bypass for music
WM can play mp3 and many other formats. u are not chained to itunes. its more manufacturers by pass. some value this more than itunes slavery.

7. A lack of choice between models
heh. i agree , but virtually everyone's needs can be addressed by a ppc phone just need to do research.
choices are simple. Keyboard or no Keyboard in my eyes and 64 ram or 128 ram. GPS or no. Wifi or no. Lots of onboard space or no. And the flexibility of expanding the storage space.

Iphone is simple for the masses. However its not a serious device as it lacks business oriented features this early in its life. Its not very smart.
Many features available for it have been implemented by QIU 3 ( symbyan ) and WM. iphone just made a better flowing interface thats same through out and out of the box hassle free for most simple users who are not aware of alternatives or do not like tweakign and personalizing phones(ohh a touch screen, like OMG its never been done before- apple knows the way)
Other smart phoens have interface mixtures due to them being open to development for so long. They also never had the rules apple is now enforcing- ie menu buttons on the bottom not top or w.e.
So many iphone genius is standardized looks for new apps.

Bottom line is its not for me, i like being the renegade and will have the phone that is smarter and acts like i want it. not how Jobs wants me to use one.
Symbian is in the same boat as WM - its just as good

Iphone
Hi in your list you say do-it-at-home, and you say you have to wait for a employee at the store to setup your phone, it's not like that in the UK you go the store or get your phone posted to you you plug in the sim card and your ready to rock and roll, not even have to setup over the internet.
