RIM Aims to Take iPhone by Storm

The Blackberry Storm 9530 featuring a touch screen display that leaves just four buttons on the smartphone's front console is Research in Motion's RIM) biggest shot yet aimed at pushing Apple's beloved iPhone off to the side this holiday season if supply chain glitches are ironed out in time.

Slated to arrive after the BlackBerry Bold and RIM's newly announced Pearl flip clamshell device, the Storm has experienced production delays, according to one research analyst, who expects RIM to deliver in time to make a fourth quarter market impact.

"There is a hairball in the supply chain but RIM doesn't screw up and they don't put out junk," Michael Finneran, analyst, dBrn Associates, told InternetNews.com. "This is their shot at the iPhone," he said, adding he expects Storm to arrive in November.

RIM and every other smartphone player is gearing up for what could be one of the most competitive quarters in the mobile device industry.
