Update: Palm Launching New Smartphone, OS

Palm is introducing its much-anticipated new device and mobile platform now. The iPhone-like smartphone with a BlackBerry-like slid-out keyboard is called the Palm Pre. Palm’s new mobile platform, which is based on Web standards, is called the Palm Web OS.

Palm Pre:

--Removable battery
--3.1-inch touch display (320 x 480 pixel resolution)
--multiple gesture are under screen
--TI OMAP 3430 processor
--Center button that the QWERTY thumb-keyboard slides out below
--MicroUSB 2.0 with mass storage support
--3.5mm headset jack
--ring/vibrate switch
--3.0 megapixel camera with led flash
--GPS with turn-by-turn directions
--Wi-Fi
--CDMA with EV-DO Rev. A 3G (Sprint exclusive -- due to ship during first half of year.)
--Bluetooth 2.1 with stereo headset support
--ringer switch
--power button
--volume up/down sensor
--built-in speaker
--4.8 ounces
