Here's my wish list for the 5810. I currently own the 857 and here's what needs to be fixed in order for me to upgrade to the 5810:1. Backlight function. The backlight is way too dim and completely inadequate. Increase the brightness or better yet, add a "Low" and "High" brightness settings so one could conserve battery power if desired.
2. No backlight on keyboard/keypad. This is a MAJOR flaw. The Handspring 270 does have a backlit keypad and it comes in extremely useful. Why bother having a backlight feature on the screen if you can't reply to messages that you are reading without getting out a flashlight or turning on the light guys? Come on... Create a backlit keyboard feature that can be toggled on and off in case one wants to conserve battery power.
3. Given the fact that wireless connectivity is so slow right now on services like GoAmerica/GoWeb, I'd like to be able to switch to a different app while the pages are loading and read or write my email. I cannot do this.
4. Add a speaker phone functionality or at least give me the option of using the 5810 without having to fumble for an earplug and plug it in to answer the phone before the caller hangs up. This unit is great for outgoing calls, but severely lacking for incoming calls in terms of practicality.
Design team gets kudos for moving forward, but I'm waiting for the second iteration of this product before paying $500+ dollars.
Also, I'd like the unit to be able to check weekly for new OS system software updates and patches and prompt me to download them wirelessly without having to synch it in a cradle.
Am I asking too much?
Nah. Just telling you what it would take for me to part with $500 and stop using my 857 Blackberry now.
Good luck! Keep innovating!
