What a piece of crap
Give me my simple cell phone back!!! The Blackberry line is so ergonomically poor. It is so poor you listen to your finger when talking on direct, some genius put the speaker in the rear of the unit and your finger hangs over the speaker also to press the direct to talk button. I bet he makes 100K+ per year in salery. This is just one of many inconveniences of this line.....

Poor ergonomics
It is very difficult to answer the phone without hitting the end button on the side. The radio button on top is also not much better because when you return unit to it's case you often accidently call the last person who calls in private radio mode.

Serious Drawbacks?
Reading other people's problems about the Blackberry defined a few I have been having. First off, the PPT button, I never use, so speakerphone isn't a biggy. Second, when people borrow my phone, they can't figure out the 0 is below the 8 to dial. Third, Escape key is in a terrible place. Fourth, trackwheel is touchy: go to press it to select something, and it may roll before the selection is made. Fifth, terrible manufacturing quality: I've had to replace it 5 times so far this year (thank god for that insurance policy Nextel offers). Sixth, speaker quality is terrible: Should offer better speakers. Seventh, screen cracks very easily. Eighth, port for mini USB (charging port) comes loose. Ninth, mini USB plug cord (charger) bends and breaks easily. Tenth, Freezes constantly (have to take out batteries to unfreeze) needs much more memory! Eleventh, I hate those annoying antenae that you have to pull out and look like they would fall off because they are so string thin. Twelth, internet browser is terrible, not at all user friendly. Thirteenth, Usable programs are hard to come by (although I haven't checked in the past few months). Fourteenth, found I had to code my own JME for certain things to work. Fifteenth, very few websites actually load, and often have troubles. I like many of the features, but overall, this is a terrible product. Problem is, I would loose almost $1000 in getting something else, so I have to stick with it. Piece of cr@p!!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Nice but lacking a few things
I used to have a rim 850 through skytel and the I1000plus through nextel. I combined both by purchasing the 6510. The only problem I have is the lack of speakerphone. Of course I just purchased this device in 11/03 and of course now they offer the 7510 which has a speakerphone and also a color display. I sent a email to nextel customer service to see what I needed to do to upgrade but I got no response. Recently the USB port failed on me and NEXTEL sent me a replacement unit. It had to be replaced because I could not charge the thing at all. Maybe they should create a separate port for charging? Over all I'm happy with the device..I should have waited for the color/speakerphone version. The only other thing is the web browser is terrible. I had GoAmerica browser on my 850 and it was practically like surfing the web on my desktop computer. I could download mobil clips. The NOL (Nextel online) is nowhere near as friendly a web browser. Nextel should scrap their browser and get the GoAmerica browser. In the meantime I'd do almost anything to get the color model with the goAmerica browser.....not that anyone is listening...

Excellent, except?
Everything I ever needed in a multi-function device. Needs speakerphone for the Nextel 2-way. Needs a hole in the bottom of the swivel belt clip to assist in removal so I don't push the thumbwheel every time I take it out. Also, is there any way to automatically illuminate the backlight on any keypress without having to press the backlight button?

Otherwise a nearly perfect device.

Awesome Device; Needs a few things?
Let me first say that the Blackberry 6510 is great! It is the only device that I have seen that combines so many great features and services (Phone, Radio, Email, Web, etc..). If it had a speaker phone for the Direct Connect, then I would upgrade my rating to a 5 instead of 4. The Direct Connect is very awkward with no speaker phone. You can turn the volume up all the way and it is 'almost' a speaker phone. If you Direct Connect a lot, you will not like this device... I don't use it that much, so it's not a huge deal for me. Now with the external battery charger available you can have an extra battery ready...and with version 3.6 of the software you can read email attachments in MS Office or PDF format. Nextel coverage in my area is OK, but not excellent....we'd love to have a few more towers down this way.

Great Device
I've tried all the Blackberry devices and have found the 6510 to be the best. It's only downside is its battery life, but a second battery takes care of that issue. One device to access contacts, schedule, email, web, and phone is awesome. Coverage with Nextel is great.

e-mail on the fly!
I have only had my 6510 for a week but already I love it. I do miss the speakerphone for nextel-direct calls. The wireless e-mail feature is awesome....that's why I got the 6510, not for the phone capabilities necessarily. I really, really like the calendar option. Very handy. I would recommend this device to anyone that needs a new gadget!
