Description:
Through its iMercury Instant Messenger, iMercury Technologies introduces "text calling" - a new method of instant messaging. The iMercury Instant Messenger works just like a regular cell phone: (1) you dial the phone number of the recipient's Blackberry device, (2) the recipient's Blackberry device rings, and (3) if the recipient answers the call, a real-time instant messaging session is established. iMercury Instant Messenger utilizes TCP/IP connections and therefore does not use the voice channel or affect your cell phone plan.
iMercury Instant Messenger also does not utilize any intermediary server (such as the traditional instant messaging services - AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, etc.) and, therefore, there is no user ID, password or need to log-on to any IM server in order to determine whether any "buddies" are available for instant messaging. iMercury Instant Messenger utilizes true peer-to-peer technology to establish a direct TCP/IP connection between the two communicating devices. With the iMercury Instant Messenger, anybody with a cell phone number can initiate a "text call" simply by dialing the phone number of the recipient (so long as the recipient also has the iMercury Instant Messenger installed). The constraints of traditional instant messenger buddy lists are eliminated.
Please note that development of the iMercury Instant Messenger is currently in its preliminary stages and is being released only for evaluation and test purposes as an alpha version. The iMercury Instant Messenger currently does not support communication between different cell phone carriers and has currently been tested only on the Blackberry 7290 on the Cingular network (with phone numbers in the same area code). iMercury would greatly appreciate any questions, feedback, suggestions, complaints or comments regarding the iMercury Instant Messenger. Please feel free to email imercuryim@yahoo.com.
